Altoona, Iowa: At a town hall meeting in Iowa on Sunday night, Nikki Haley took aim at Ron DeSantis, with whom she is in direct competition for second place in the early states of the GOP presidential election.

“I’m going to tell you the truth about him while Ron is lying about me,” she declared to the gathering at the Fireside Grill in Altoona. “The media can attest to the fact that I haven’t spoken poorly of anyone; you haven’t heard me at any town halls. However, you don’t deserve to win if you have to lie in order to do so.Ron DeSantis

The conflict between Haley and DeSantis has been intensifying for weeks; in most surveys in Iowa and other states, they are both behind former President Donald Trump by double digits. Both seek to establish themselves as the leading contenders challenging Trump in the GOP primary.

The fact that Haley launched this 90-second assault on DeSantis at the conclusion of her typical stump speech, however, made it noteworthy. Although DeSantis answers questions aimed against Haley, she seldom takes direct aim at him, and her stump speech hasn’t changed much over the course of the campaign.Ron DeSantis

She said, “I am seeing the TV advertisements that you are seeing.” “Ron DeSantis has not posted a single accurate advertisement about me on there.”

In light of the current conflict in the Middle East, super PACs endorsing both candidates have launched counterattacks in recent months on matters such as support for Israel and relations to China.

Haley has not responded to DeSantis’ growing criticism of her in recent weeks, despite the fact that her campaign released a digital advertisement earlier this week criticizing DeSantis for his views on entitlements.

Following her criticism of DeSantis on spending and energy policy on Sunday, Haley brought up DeSantis’s Saturday campaigning in Iowa alongside Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.Ron DeSantis

“It is not possible to be pro-Israel and elect the most anti-Israel Republican to office in this state, someone who voted against condemning Hamas and against combating antisemitism on college campuses,” Haley declared. “He brought ‘the Squad’ to your state and voted with them.”

DeSantis responded by saying that Massie is opposed to all foreign aid, not just Israel.Ron DeSantis

“I have, of course, always been a strong advocate for Israel. “I believe it is beneficial for our country,” the governor of Florida stated to reporters on Saturday. “However, it is untrue that he is somehow against Israel when such accusation is made against him. He voted against it on all counts. That’s where he stands. We don’t have to agree on it; he’s been pretty principled about it.”Ron DeSantis

Bryan Griffin, the press secretary for DeSantis’ campaign, described him as “the clearest, most consistent pro-Israel candidate in this race” and said that Haley was “trying to distract from her record of inviting Gaza refugees to the U.S. and supporting U.S. tax dollars going to the Gaza Strip.” the statement read. Haley has been under fire from the DeSantis campaign for some months now over the unfounded claim that she intended to welcome Gazan refugees.Ron DeSantis

The most recent NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom survey of the state revealed Trump dominating the GOP field with 51% support, followed by DeSantis at 19% and Haley at 16%, with the race for second place being within the margin of error. The Iowa caucus is held in less than a month.
