Fans have always preferred Oscar-winning actresses to play the titular character, an arrogant former Hollywood actress who reflects on her life in a farewell interview with an unnamed journalist.

“I do know there is an online thing about it,” Chastain stated in response to a query on the fan casting. “Ok, forward me a screenplay.”

Chastain is officially bidding adieu to her role as Evelyn Hugo’s seven husbands as the year comes to an end. IndieWire and E! News have claimed that she has said there is “zero possibility” that she will play Evelyn Hugo in a motion picture.

However, I really like the supporters’ enthusiasm. stated Chastain. “They would be outside with the books when I signed them every day I worked on Broadway. I think their fan base is incredible. I’m sorry to disappoint everyone, but I can’t wait to see it!

2017 saw the publication of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book. Netflix said in 2022 that Leslye Headland was directing and Liz Tigelaar was developing the script for a feature-length adaptation. The actress gained notoriety in the spring when a video of her refusing to sign a fan’s copy of “Evelyn Hugo” went viral on social media. She then gave an explanation of her choice on X, which at the time was Twitter.

“I’ve been asked multiple times by fans to sign books that I’m not contractually attached to,” said Chastain in April. I’ll say that I’m not signing because I’m not doing the work since it seems wrong and that I’m taking credit for someone else’s hard work. That doesn’t mean I didn’t read a really good script.

In support of her indie film “Memory,” in which she co-stars with Peter Sarsgaard and for which he won the best actor medal at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, Chastain is now visiting the press circuit. The movie premieres nationwide in theaters on January 5.
