Authorities said on Thursday that a corpse discovered in a freezer in San Diego last month could belong to a woman who has been missing or deceased for as long as nine years.

The corpse was found in the freezer by “out-of-town” family members who were visiting the home, according to police in December. They contacted local authorities.

The lady discovered in the freezer is not linked to the family members; rather, they are related to someone who lives in the house today. According to the police, when the corpse was discovered, the freezer was operating.

According to investigators, the body’s peculiar placement prompted the San Diego police murder branch to launch an investigation.

The corpse was identified by police on Thursday as that of 81-year-old White lady Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones.

“Based on the investigation to this point, detectives believe it is possible that Haxby-Jones may have been missing or dead for up to nine years,” police said.
